Wichita Police confirmed at a press briefing on Friday that Emily Glass died of a gunshot wound

  • Police claim there was a rifle at Glass’ feet when they entered the residence

  • Three suicide notes were said to have been found around the house

  • At this time Glass’ death has not been ruled a homicide or a suicide

Early Friday morning the Wichita Police Department received a report that a woman had committed suicide at 655 S Edgemoor, the same address 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez went missing from in February.

Lucas’ father, Johnathan Hernandez made the call at 1:40 am. Hernandez claimed he arrived at his house and found the woman with a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement was not able to give any details of the shooting at the scene. They were not even able to confirm the identity of the female victim, or if they were investigating the incident as a homicide or a suicide.

At Friday’s media briefing, the WPD was not able to give much more information. They were able to confirm the female victim to be 27-year-old Emily Glass. During the briefing, it was said that a rifle was found at Glass’ feet and there were three suicide notes found around the house.

At this time the shooting has yet to be ruled a suicide or a homicide, as law enforcement waits for the coroner’s report to come back with a cause of death. Those close to Glass do not believe the death to be a suicide.

Glass was a person of interest in Lucas’ death. In May, Glass led a private investigator to Lucas’ body in Harvey County, just outside of Wichita. Police charged Glass with interfering with an investigation, but she was later released.
