Late Wednesday night, Columbus, Ohio police had a close call when at least one suspect opened fire on officers with a high-caliber weapon. Luckily, no officers were injured during the shooting. Last nights attack follows several national tragedies involving the death of officers.
On Wednesday night at roughly 11:53 pm, Columbus police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 1175 Windsor Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to identify two apartments and multiple vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.
As officers waited for detectives to arrive on the scene, at least one suspect opened fire with a high-caliber firearm. Officers were able to take cover, and no officers were injured from the attack. At this time, police do not have a suspect, nor do they know how many suspects were involved in the early morning attack.
A Columbus police helicopter and SWAT team were called in to search for the suspect(s). After searching the area, they were not able to find anyone associated with the shooting. Hours after the shooting the Columbus police took to their Twitter to update the situation, with a message saying “This has to stop.”
