Trace Riff was arrested again for methamphetamine a week after kicking a 1-year-old in the back while screaming racial slurs
A 63-year-old man called police after someone forced open the door to his neighbor’s apartment
Police responded and found Riff inside with methamphetamine
People in the community have been demanding Riff be charged with a hate crime for his attack on a child last week
It was recently discovered that Riff was an international model 13 years ago
Last week a Wichita, Kansas man made headlines after he kicked an African-American 1-year-old in the back inside a grocery store while screaming racial slurs. Now Trace Riff has been arrested again for possession of methamphetamine.
At 2:45 a.m. Thursday morning a 63-year-old man called 911 after his neighbor’s apartment door was forced open. When officers responded to the call they found Riff inside the apartment with methamphetamine. The arrest comes as no surprise as Riff has a very long criminal record for years before attacking the toddler last week.
Members of the community were angered to hear Riff was released from jail hours after being arrested for his racially charged attack on the 1-year-old. Many believe the Wichita Police Department did not give him an appropriate charge for his crime. The Plain States Region of the Anti-Defamation League has called on law enforcement to upgrade that charge to a hate crime.
After going viral for assaulting the child, Riff’s past began to surface, which only makes his story all the stranger. Before Riff began committing hate crimes against children and battling a methamphetamine addiction he was an international model. In a 2005 issue of Harper’s Bazaar he is seen grasping the hip of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s wife Gisele Bundchen.
In just thirteen years, Riff went from doing modeling shows for names such as Louis Vuitton around the world to sleeping in dumpsters in Oklahoma City and Wichita. Riff has meth possession, assaulting an officer, domestic abuse and DUIs convictions on his criminal record. It is hard to believe the handsome model in his MySpace account is the same man who has recently made national news for a hate crime against a child.
In an interview with The Kansas City Star, Riff’s grandma Twila LaRue says her grandson needs treatment for mental illness. LaRue believes the underlying issue to be Huntington’s disease, a disease that causes brain nerve cells to break down resulting in cognitive and psychiatric disorders.
LaRue stated that everybody in their family has tried to help Riff, but it seems like he prefers to be homeless. At 18-years-old, countless modeling agencies were trying to sign Riff. His grandmother believes that attention helped to create Riff’s delusional world of entitlement. His modeling career lasted a couple years, but once he returned to Oklahoma City he could not keep his life together.
We’ve had him in drug treatment. But he is so hard to work with because he is delusional. He doesn’t believe that working and staying stable is even an option for him because he is delusional.
Riff’s court date for kicking the child is scheduled for January 14, but LaRue doubts he is going to show up.
I would bet you he would not show up for no court date. He probably doesn’t think of that anymore. That’s not even in Trace’s reality.
