In San Antonio, a horrifying case of child abuse alleges a father and step-mother forced one of their three children to eat and brush her teeth with cat feces, used a dog collar to shock her and beat all three children with a thorny switch.
On Monday, 32-year-old James Howard Chalkley was charged with one count of injury to a child. His 22-year-old wife, Cheyanne Chalkley, was charged with two counts of injury to a child. Chalkley is the father of a 3-year-old boy, and two daughters, ages 5 and 10. Cheyanne is the children’s step-mother.
A teacher noticed bruising on the 5-year-old daughter in September, which led Child Protective Services to interview the two girls. After learning how extreme their punishments were, all the children were removed from the Converse home and placed directly into foster care.
It was reported that one of the children told their foster mother about a time when Chalkley believed the kids purposely did not pick up cat feces from a closet. He smeared the cat feces on at least two of the children. Chalkley then forced his 5-year-old daughter to eat the cat feces. He also forcibly brushed her teeth with cat feces so hard he caused the girl to bleed.
The 5-year-old girl told police that Chalkley would place a shock collar for dogs around her neck. According to the arrest warrant, the young girl said the collar would leave “green marks” on her. Chalkley and Cheyanne would also beat the children with belts and switches from a lemon tree, some of which had thorns.
To make matters worse, Texas CPS already knew the children were in a “high-risk.” . In 2016, CPS had contact with the family after the children had been left unsupervised.
In January of this year, CPS made contact again when Chalkley and Cheyanne stripped the children of their clothing, forced them to go outside, then sprayed them down with cold water for misbehaving. Apparently, that was not enough reason for CPS to step in. Instead, the case was closed and labeled “high risk.”
Less than one year later, we are now beginning to learn of the hell that CPS left these children in. Reports show that Chalkley asked his wife if the punishments were too harsh. Cheyanne responded she would hit them more if they were her children.
