A Facebook event titled “Shout ‘Begone Thot!’ at Hurricane Florence” has over 20,000 people interested
Over 4,000 people marked themselves as going and over 17,000 marked as interested
The event is scheduled for Friday at midnight outside of the White House
The event is to make sure Florence knows we are a “thot-free nation”
As many are preparing for Hurricane Florence to make landfall in the next 48 hours, a rather large group of people are choosing an intriguing approach to prepare for the storm by choosing to gather and yell “Begone thot” at the dangerous hurricane from the nation’s capital.
A Facebook event has attracted over 20,000 people’s attention and is calling for people to shout the phrase at Florence from the White House on Friday at 12:00 am. The event is appropriately titled, “Shout ‘Begone, Thot!’ at Hurricane Florence.”
While it is unclear if anybody is going to show up for the event, with currently over 4,000 marked as going and over 17,000 marked as interested, one can only imagine that some crowd will form at the nation’s capital to triumphantly shout at Florence. The about section simply reads, “Our country is threatened by the thot Florence. Make sure she knows we a thot-free nation. BEGONE!”
So why the phrase begone thot? According to Know Your Meme, the phrase first gained popularity online after Twitter user @HollywoodHefner tweeted a mock ad of Raid bug spray with a label that read, “THOT BITCH BEGONE SPRAY.” The @HollywoodHefner account has since been suspended from Twitter.
From there the phrase officially became meme-worthy and was spread to reddit. From reddit the meme was brought to live on YouTube. At the end of the day, if you are trying to figure out a logical reason behind this, it is probably better to not waste your time and just go with it.
A bizarre trend is trying to take form on social media. The idea behind it is based on the main character from Dragon Ball Z, Goku.
Events are popping up all over Facebook titled “Scream Like Goku.” These events are encouraging people to gather at different areas around the country and then basically scream like the legendary super Saiyan Goku.
Washington Square Arch
A video below posted to Facebook by Nick Royall shows a group of people screaming like Goku in front of the Washington Square Arch. The video has over 7 million views, and the post it is included in has been shared over 130,000 times since it was posted yesterday afternoon.
Since the video went viral, people are planning their own scream like Goku events all around the country. One of the larger ones is set to happen in the North Star Mall in San Antonio, Texas on October 13 at 5:00 pm. So far, over 3,000 people say they will be attending the event.
