Terminally Ill Teenager Requests Nerf War As Part Of “Zachary’s Bucket List”

Terminally ill 17-year-old Zachary Fuller has requested a giant Nerf gun battle as part of his bucket list

  • After years of tests it was discovered that Zachary has Progressive Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA)

  • Zachary has created a bucket list after finding out his illness is terminal

At 17-years-old, Zachary Fuller already understands the value of life more than many adults. Zachary is terminally ill, but instead of dwelling on his future, he created a bucket list of everything he wants to accomplish.

For the past two years, Zachary’s health has been steadily declining. After years of tests leading to no answers, a DNA test finally gave Zachary and his family some answers. Zachary was diagnosed with Progressive Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA).

Progressive Spinocerebellar Ataxia

Progressive Spinocerebellar Ataxia, also known as spinocerebellar atrophy or spinocerebellar degeneration, is a progressive, degenerative genetic disease. There are multiple types of SCA, and each type could be considered a disease of their own.

An estimated 150,000 people in the United States has SCA at any given time. There is no known effective cure for SCA, and the disease can affect any age. The disease can be caused by a recessive or dominant gene.

Along with SCA, Zachary has developed a list of medical issues, including, Parkinsonism, Bulbar Palsy, Hyperparathyroidism, tremors in his hands, chronic nerve pain, and excessive fatigue.

Mega Dart War

Despite his long list of medical issues, Zachary wants to move forward with completing his bucket list. One of the first things on that list is a giant Nerf gun battle. A Facebook event titled “Zachary’s Bucket List Mega Dart War” gives all the details for the Nerf gun battle.

Zachary is a 17 year old boy who a rare genetic disease called Progressive Spinocerebellar Ataxia. Currently there is no cure or treatment for his illness and it is terminal. He has made a bucket list of the things he would like to see and do before his ride on earth is over. Currently the family is having financial difficulties with lost wages, trips 3 hours away to the doctor and hospital, and other expenses. Please help us raise funds to help this family give him the best time they can while he is still with them!

**Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks will be available to purchase
**Nerf darts and Nerf guns will be available for purchase the day of the event for a small donation
**Safety goggles will be provided
**All participants must sign a Waiver of Liability, parents must sign for anyone under the age of 18
Bring your own Dart gun
A limited quantity of guns will be available for purchase the day of the event

Zachary’s family is hoping for a large turnout for the Nerf gun battle. All ages are welcome, and the family has also received corporate sponsorship. Heather Sims told The Daily Haze that they currently have food for 300, but will accommodate for more people should they need to.

Zachary’s Bucket List

The family also created a Facebook group called “Zachary’s Bucket List,” which allows people to follow along with the family and to receive updates as needed.

The “Zachary’s Bucket List” Go Fund Me campaign was created to help with some of the bucket list, medical fees, travel costs, and to help the family who has suffered financial loss while taking care of Zachary. Donations towards Zachary’s bucket list can be given directly to the family through the “Zachary Fuller Terminal Illness Fund” at Souhtwest National Bank.
