Officials with the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island have grounded a flight crew after they used their warplane to draw a giant penis over Okanogan County, Washington.

The aircraft used was an E/A-18 Growler assigned to Whidbey Island, which carries a two-person crew. As the Growler flew over the small town of Omak, it “left a condensed air trail resembling an obscene image to observers on the ground,” the Navy said in a statement on Friday. The names of the crew has not been released, but the Navy is conducting an investigation.

The actions of this aircrew are wholly unacceptable and antithetical to Navy core values.

We have grounded the aircrew and are conducting a thorough investigation and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The Navy apologizes for this irresponsible and immature act, and anyone who was offended by this unacceptable action.

Social Media

Residents of Omak snapped a picture of the crews obscene sky-doodle, and of course, those pictures ended up on social media where they quickly gained attention.

Adam Gessaman tweeted an image of the giant penis, which was then retweeted over 9,000 times. The tweet read, “Some pilots at NAS Whidbey did some sky writing today. ‍♂️,” then had a link to a local news article.

In an interesting twist, in the comments, Jasmine Amjad‏, a producer from Now This News asked for permission to use Gessaman’s image. Gessaman responded, “Sorry, it isn’t my photo. It is from the linked article.”

A few retweets later, Gessaman tweeted, “That feeling when you mostly tweet about education policy, politics, and football… but you tweet about one sky dick and find yourself in retweet city.”

Anahi Torres‏ tweeted out a picture that she did take. The tweet read, “The most monumental thing to happen in omak. A penis in the sky.” The image was retweeted over 3,000 times.
