On Sunday, 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes was gunned down in a car with her mother, LaPorsha Washington in Houston, Texas and nobody is sure why. Almost one week after the shooting, people are concerned that the heinous murder may have been a racially motivated hate crime.
The FBI has joined local authorities in the manhunt. National activists have raised a $100,000 reward for the capture of the killer. On Thursday authorities released a sketch of the shooter and a grainy image of what is believed to be his truck. There is no tag number to go along with the image of the truck to help authorities identify the driver.
Washington, Jazmine and her three sisters had just left Walmart when the shooter pulled up next to their vehicle in a four door red pickup truck. The man in the truck began shooting into the vehicle, wounding Washington and her unidentified 6-year-old daughter and killing Jazmine. The family’s attorney Lee Merritt said in a tweet on New Year’s Eve, “There exist no rationale for the attack other than hate.”
#JazmineBarnes was 7 y/o when an unidentified white man in a red pickup truck opened fire on her families car striking her several times killing her and wounding others. This man is still at large in the Houston, TX area. There exist no rationale for the attack other than hate.

From her hospital bed, Washington gave a heartbreaking interview to KHOU as she tried to figure out what she had possibly done for the shooter to murder her daughter and attempt to murder anybody he could in her car. Washington went on to say the shooter “fired at us for no reason. None.”
Did I cut this man off? Did I make a wrong turn in front of him? Did I stop him from getting out of the Walmart, from whatever he was doing, did I do anything wrong to cause this man to fire shots in my car? And I didn’t. I didn’t do anything. I didn’t make a wrong turn. I didn’t get over in his lane. I didn’t do none of that. He fired off at us for no reason. None.
A Go Fund Me was started to help the family with costs from Jazmine’s death. The campaign, titled “Justice for My daughter Jazmine,” has raised over $50,000 out of a $6,500 goal.
Today my little girl named Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed. Her mother and siblings were also shot at. Unfortunately the life of my 7 yr old little girl was taken selfishly by a unknown suspect. I hope and pray for my family to find peace and justice for our loss. I could never imagine the day of losing one of my own children let alone the youngest of my 8 in such a selfish and sensless way. I ask that family or friends that are able too please help and find it in yall heart to donate to this go fund me to help with any expenses that our family may need during this tragedy. Rest In Heaven Jazmine our beautiful princess we love you and miss you!
