Activist Melissa Mckinnies has taken to social media with the claim that her son 24-year-old son Danye Jones was lynched on October 17 in her backyard.
McKinnies made a post to her Facebook with two pictures of her son Jones hung with what appears to be possibly a sheet. The post was removed from Facebook, but not before it was saved by social media users who continued to share it out.
This is what I woke up to! They lynched my baby. My first time seeing these photos. If you have a weak stomach don’t look but this mother wants justice after I get up. I’m sick and losing my mind but I had to let the world see what they did to my baby!
Another post from McKinnies stated that if anything should happen to her that she did not kill herself. McKinnies goes on to write that Jones may have been a little sad every once in a while but he would not have hung himself in her backyard for her to find.
If anything happens to me I DID NOT KILL MYSELF. My SON didn’t hang himself in his own mother’s backyard for me to find. He may have been a little sad every once in a while but he would have NEVER went out like that. He loved his family and was looking forward to his new businesses.
REST EASY MOMMA’S MIRACLE BABY!!! WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU, Hold your momma tight I need you right now and forever.
According to a tweet from the NAACP Georgia Southern Chapter, Jones’ death has been ruled a suicide. The tweet points out a general lack of information in regards to Jones’ death.
Danye Jones from Belleville Missouri was found by his mother lynched in her backyard. Police have ruled it a suicide but, no information or articles can be found relating to the case. #DanyeJones

As Jones’ name continues to grow throughout social media, one person claims it was not a lynching. The Instagram account “bosschickmedia” claims a source in St Louis confirmed Jones’ death was a suicide. The account claims McKinnies is lying.
bosschickmediaThis is a terrible story to fabricate but I just got wind that #DanyeJones did in fact commit suicide. A reliable source from St.Louis revealed that his mother allegedly lied….I constantly talk about doing the #duediligence so I felt the need to make you aware as soon as I found out. If you see this story going around pass on the information SMH I still don’t know what to say because this is worse! I was also tagged in a post that said basically the family believes he was lynched. Apparently this is something that they are fighting. I was told however, that he was suffering from depression for some time. Be careful what you post. My apologies people! Sigh…#BossChick💯
Bosschickmedia provides absolutely no evidence behind their claim. A look the BOSSCHICKTV YouTube account — which is linked on the Instagram account — and other social media suggests bosschickmedia may not be a reliable source for factual information.
A Facebook page named “Bosschick Media & Marketing” with 14 followers made the same post claiming McKinnies is lying. A contact in the pages about section gives the email [email protected]. A look at BossChick Raine’s personal Facebook account shows the person claiming Jones’ death as a suicide lives in Bronx, New York, casting even more doubt over her claim without some kind of evidence.
Overall, McKinnies has a lot of support from social media users. Social media users have also pointed out that Jones’ pants are down in the picture of him hanging. Many have said they believe this was a way of humiliating Jones. The fact that Jones’ pants were down when he was found raises more questions than answers.
