Is The Mayor Of Wichita Speaking At A Pro-ICE Rally On Saturday

Residents are curious if Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell will be speaking at a pro-ICE rally on Saturday

  • A Facebook event has Longwell listed as one of the “tentative speakers”

  • Other tentative speakers include Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay, Kris Kobach, Governor Jeff Colyer and several other officials

  • The rally follows a week long protest against an ICE detainment center located in the city

An event on Facebook has Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell listed as a “tentative” speaker at a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement rally on Saturday.

The event is titled “Making America Great Again-Wichita”, hosted by The Voice of Reason and The Game Plan. The Voice of Reason is a local conservative radio show hosted by Andy Hooser. Oddly enough, The Game Plan appears to be a sports radio talk show.

The description claims Senator Ty Masterson will be speaking, along with Representative John Whitmer. The event has also allegedly received a “letter of support” from Congressman Ron Estes. No one was available to verify the claims at this time.

Details of the event read:

It’s time for the silent majority show our support for the community!

We support President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

We support the enforcement of immigration policy through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security, Border Patrol, and law enforcement.

We support LEGAL immigration and welcome it warmly, while opposing all attempts to break the law by entering the country illegally.

We understand illegal immigration has contributed to crime, drug distribution, human trafficking, and other atrocities in our society.

We support local law enforcement and understand they are here to serve and protect our community.

We are the positive voice in a divisive political climate!

We are the voice to unite the community!

Speakers:
Andy Hooser, Radio host “The Voice of Reason”- KQAM Radio
Congressman Ron Estes (Letter of support)
State Representative John Whitmer
State Senator Ty Masterson
David Hill, “One Spark”
Christopher Allen, “Bleeding Blue” film

(Tentative)
Mayor Jeff Longwell/ Vice-Mayor Bryan Frye
Governor Jeff Colyer/Lt Governor Tracey Mann
Secretary of State Kris Kobach
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter
Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay

While Longwell is listed as a tentative speaker, earlier a screenshot shows him as a confirmed speaker, raising the question of if the mayor is planning to speak at the event. Estes was also formerly listed as a speaker, but is now listed as sending a letter of support.

It has yet to be confirmed that any of the “tentative” speakers will be showing up to the event. Regardless of actually attending, being named as tentative speakers has provided a perfect opportunity for these city and state officials to either publicly denounce the actions of ICE, or show their compliance with the agency’s questionable procedures.

Last week in Wichita, protesters occupied the corner of the main intersection in front of a shopping center where an ICE detainment center is located. While some have argued the building is strictly used for office space, emails between ICE and DHS show the building uses at least 20% of the area for video court, processing, and holding. The emails state the building has four holding cells used for detaining immigrants for no more than 12 hours.

Protesters have requested a non-partisan group of state officials to tour the building. At a press conference on Friday, Representative Gail Finney and Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau both agreed the building needs to be inspected in order to ensure those inside are not being denied any Constitutional rights.
