Former Dakota Access employee Kyle Thompson has been arrested and charged with Domestic Violence, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Drug Paraphernalia, other than marijuana.

Thompson made headlines in October of 2016 after he rushed a group of water protectors in Standing Rock in a white pickup truck, armed with an assault rifle. Thompson was a security guard for Dakota Access, contracted through Knightsbridge Risk Management.

Security for Oceti Sakowin noticed Thompson driving towards water protectors armed with an assault rifle. Thompson was dressed as a water protector, wearing a black T-shirt, black sleeves to cover his identifiable tattoos and a red bandanna over his face.

Camp security managed to push Thompson’s vehicle off the road, at which point he exited the vehicle with his assault rifle. Water protectors quickly surrounded Thompson and attempted to deescalate the situation, which led to a standoff between Thompson and water protectors.

While the situation was incredibly tense, nobody was seriously injured. The BIA eventually came to the scene and arrested Thompson.

Thompson claims that he was going to take pictures of damaged equipment, but many have had a hard time believing that story. Many were worried and wondering why Thompson would have been disguised as a water protector and armed with an assault rifle.

In a shocking turn of events, Thompson is not facing any charges from the incident. Instead, Brennan Nastacio, Michael Fasig, and Isreal Hernandez, the three men who stopped Thompson are being charged.

Nastacio was charged with a terrorizing offense for threatening Thompson by walking towards him with a knife. Fasig and Isreal are wanted for alleged reckless endangerment after they “rammed a truck driven by another individual, creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury.”

Little is known about Thompson’s most current arrest at this time. According to jail records, he was booked into Bismarck jail on Monday for the three charges.
