- Police claim a graphic video shows Kraft paying for sex acts at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida
- Kraft was one of 25 arrested during an ongoing investigation in the area against prostitution
- At this time a spokesperson for Kraft has denied any wrongdoing
On Friday it was reported that 77-year-old owner of the New England Patriots Robert Kraft was one of 25 arrested during a prostitution sting at a massage parlor in Jupiter, Florida.
The sting occurred at Orchids of Asia Day Spa where police claim two graphic videos show Kraft paying for sex acts. A spokesperson for the state attorney’s office in Palm Beach County, Michael Edmondson, said the nature of the charges the 25 suspects are facing would not be released until next week.
From Orlando to Palm Beach, Florida police have been cracking down on prostitution over the last six months. According to ESPN, hundreds of arrests warrants have come out over the last few days, ten spas have closed, and a handful of people have been charged with sex trafficking.
Police say they secretly placed cameras in targeted massage parlors and recorded transactions between male customers and female employees. A spokesperson for Kraft denied any wrongdoing in a statement that says they, “categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity. Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further.” The NFL said in a statement, it’s “aware of the ongoing law enforcement matter and will continue to monitor developments.”
Those arrested with Kraft in the sting could be facing a first or second-degree misdemeanor for each count. A second-degree charge carries up to a 60-day jail sentence and a $500 fine; a first-degree charge carries up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Jupiter Police Chief Daniel Kerr said he was stunned to see Kraft — worth $6 billion — among the arrests. For a first-time prostitution arrest, Kraft would most likely be allowed to apply for a diversion where he would have to perform 100 hours community service and pay to attend a class on the negative effects of prostitution and human trafficking.
Kraft lives in Massachusetts, but also has a house in the Palm Beach area. Despite being a Democrat, Kraft is known for being a personal guest of President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago Club. On Friday from the White House, Trump stated, “Well it’s very sad. I was very surprised to see it. He’s proclaimed his innocence, totally. But I’m very surprised to see it.”
Kraft began accumulating his fortune through a packaging company. In 1988, Kraft — a season ticket holder at the time — bought the team’s previous stadium. In 1994, Kraft bought the team for $172 million to keep the Patriots from moving to St Louis. Under Kraft, the Patriots have become the most successful team in pro sports with ten trips to the Super Bowl, with six of those being victories including this years’ against the Los Angeles Rams.
