On Thursday afternoon, Wichita police and U.S. Marshals shot 29-year-old Geoffery Morris while attempting to apprehend him on a felony assault warrant.
The shooting occurred outside the county corrections office near downtown Wichita, Kansas just after 1:00 pm. Multiple sources told The Daily Haze that Morris was taking his wife Tia Brown to see her corrections officer at the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections when the shooting occurred.
Deputy Wichita Police Chief Troy Livingston claimed officers know Morris to be armed. Livingston said Morris put his vehicle into reverse and slammed into a Durango driven by U.S. Marshals. Morris then pulled forward and hit a sign. At that point, Livingston claims Morris either pinned the officer or was attempting to pin the officer when at least eleven shots were fired by law enforcement.
After hitting the sign Morris reportedly struck a pillar in front of a nearby business then went over the steps and slammed into a building across the street. Morris was taken to the hospital in critical condition and believed to have been shot multiple times. The officer who shot Morris — said to be a thirteen year veteran of the force — was taken to the hospital and said to be in fair condition.
Livingston said a gun was found inside Morris’ vehicle after the shooting. While early in the afternoon Livingston said Brown was being questioned, sources say she is now facing charges, but that has not been confirmed at this time.
Both Morris and Brown have criminal records, although Morris’ rap sheet is significantly worse. His criminal record dates back years and includes aggravated battery, theft between $1,000 and $25,000 and selling narcotics. According to Morris’ Facebook, the couple was married on December 14, 2017, however, it is unclear if Brown legally changed her name.
A post from Morris’ Facebook — which is under the name Konr Tyrson — Brown made a post on September 5, 2017 claims he was preparing to sign a plea deal for 27 years. It appears the goal was to raise money to get Brown out of jail.
Geoffrey Morris will be signing a plea for 27 years on Thursday. If we can post his bond (which miraculously I somehow found a saint to do it for that) once he is out him and I can save for a good lawyer to fight this. I’m so tired and carrying us both still alone on top of saving is getting hard. I’d sell everything we own to get him out but everything we own has been stolen. The loan I got from a family friend was stolen by his best friend. I just don’t know what to do anymore. We feel helpless and have lost all hope. I know money is tight for everyone right now but if we can all cut back just a little for a little while we can make a world of difference for Geoffrey and I. All support is extremely appreciated. Thank you.
