Gab Founder Andrew Torba Receives Threats After Website Goes Down

The social media site Gab.ai claimed to be a place for freedom of speech, but during its short existence has received ridicule for giving the extreme right and white supremacists a place to spread their hate speech without the risk of bans or blocks.

After 46-year-old Robert Bowers killed 11 people and injuring six others — including four law enforcement officers — in the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood on Saturday, it was discovered the shooter had been making antisemitic posts to his Gab account. The revelation resulted in Stripe, PayPal, Joyent, and GoDaddy refusing to continue to work with Gab, which took the site offline.

Despite working with authorities and Bowers also having a Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, Gab was the only social media site to receive any form of backlash. The move to ban Gab has some once again asking just how much freedom of speech still indeed exists on the Internet. Earlier this month, Facebook and Twitter conducted a massive purge of media outlets and journalists from both sites.

A message on Gab’s website reads as follows.

Gab has spent the past 48 hours proudly working with the DOJ and FBI to bring justice to an alleged terrorist. Because of the data we provided, they now have plenty of evidence for their case. In the midst of this Gab has been no-platformed by essential internet infrastructure providers at every level. We are the most censored, smeared, and no-platformed startup in history, which means we are a threat to the media and to the Silicon Valley Oligarchy.

Gab isn’t going anywhere.

It doesn’t matter what you write. It doesn’t matter what the sophist talking heads say on TV. It doesn’t matter what verified nobodies say on Twitter. We have plenty of options, resources, and support. We will exercise every possible avenue to keep Gab online and defend free speech and individual liberty for all people.

You have all just made Gab a nationally recognized brand as the home of free speech online at a time when Silicon Valley is stifling political speech they disagree with to interfere in a US election.

The internet is not reality. TV is not reality. 80% of normal everyday people agree with Gab and support free expression and liberty. The online outrage mob and mainstream media spin machine are the minority opinion. People are waking up, so please keep pointing the finger at a social network instead of pointing the finger at the alleged shooter who holds sole responsibility for his actions.

No-platform us all you want. Ban us all you want. Smear us all you want.

You can’t stop an idea.

As we transition to a new hosting provider Gab will be inaccessible for a period of time. We are working around the clock to get Gab.com back online. Thank you and remember to speak freely.

Andrew Torba, CEO Gab.com

A tweet from Gab provide a list of “internet infrastructure providers” that had banned them from their services.

In the last 24 hours Gab has been banned from these internet infrastructure providers for supporting free speech and helping law enforcement bring justice to a terrorist: Are you paying attention yet and ?

Gab also tweeted out the full recording of an interview with founder Andrew Torba on NPR. The caption with the tweet reads, “Here is our full interview with since they cut out 98% of what was said it would be a shame if this went viral.”

In an interview on Info Wars, Torba said they decided to pull the site down after their host told them they were being removed. Torba went on to say that the media has been harassing him and his family. He claims if it were not for Gab, authorities would not be aware that Bowers did not support President Donald Trump.

Alex Jones reaffirms the presence of “Nazis” on Gab but also claims them to be the minority of users. Jones goes on to say the only reason the Nazis are there is because they have been kicked off all the social media sites. In August. Jones was dropped by Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Apple and Spotify. While some supported the decision to remove Jones, others now believe his removal was the beginning of the end for what little freedom of speech remained on these social media giants.

Crying Neo-Nazi and known federal informant Chris Cantwell also spoke out on the attack on Gab. “Gab.com has built a “Free Speech” social network, where people can post anything that is legal to say,” Cantwell writes on his blog. You can be a racist, or a communist, or a Jew, or an atheist, it does not matter.”
