Facebook Removes teleSUR English Page For The Second Time

Facebook removed teleSUR English’s page on Monday without explanation

  • An admin for Revolution News was given a “Page Publishing Authorizations” notice after scheduling an article on the removal

  • Ford Fischer of News2Share had his Facebook LIVE video of the Unite the Right rally removed and was also given a “Page Publishing Authorizations” notice

  • Facebook has partnered with Digital Forensic Lab to attempt to remove “fake news” from the platform

On Monday, Facebook removed teleSUR English’ page with almost 400,000 followers without giving any explanation. The concerning move by Facebook is the second time this year the Latin-American news outlet has had their page deleted.

So far, teleSUR has only been given a vague explanation by Facebook for a reason behind the removal, claiming the page violated its terms of use. When the page was removed in January, even after being reinstated teleSUR was never given a specific reason for the temporary removal.

Hello,

Your Page “teleSUR English” has been removed for violating our Terms of Use. A Facebook Page is a distinct presence used solely for business or promotional purposes. Among other things, Pages that are hateful, threatening or obscene are not allowed. We also take down Pages that attack an individual or group, or that are set up by an unauthorized individual. If your Page was removed for any of the above reasons, it will not be reinstated. Continued misuse of Facebook’s features could result in the permanent loss of your account.

Following the removal of the teleSUR English page, James Woods an admin for Revolution News made a post to his personal account after scheduling a story on teleSUR’s removal to be published on their page. The post explained that Woods was given a “Page Publishing Authorizations” notice from Facebook following the scheduling and included a screenshot.

Woods said he received the message 20 seconds after scheduling the story on the Revolution News Facebook page.

Exactly 20 seconds after scheduling an article about Facebook removing the TeleSUR English page from their platform with no reason given, I received a notification from them.

I’ll be stunned if they don’t take down RevNews by the end of the year…

Woods is not the first to receive the alarming message. On Sunday, Ford Fischer livestreamed the entire Unite the Right rally in Washington DC through News2Share’s Facebook page. Fischer posted a screenshot of a message the outlet received from Facebook explaining they had removed his livestream, stating the platform does not allow “live videos that are static, looping, or don’t clearly state they are prerecorded.” Fischer’s livestream was none of the above mentioned.

Today I live-streamed the entirety of the Unite the Right rally from beginning to end, and Facebook removed it. Tens of thousands watched live. The reason listed is blatantly untrue and unjustifiable.

Regardless, I have a backup of the whole recording and will have my footage up over time. The stuff I have from today is footage you’ll never see on the mainstream media.

Then on Monday, Fischer posted to his personal account that Facebook had made him go through the same “Page Publishing Authorizations” that Woods was forced to go through.

Facebook just made me verify that I publish from inside the United States, which is funny because I wear around a device called an iPhone that tells Facebook where I am virtually every minute of the day.

All three incidents come just shortly after Alex Jones had four pages removed from Facebook that were related to his outlet Info Wars. Facebook once again stated the reason for removing the pages was a violation of the platform’s terms of use. Being that Facebook is a private company, they are managing to fall into a very dark grey area of censorship.

While the irrational behavior from Facebook appears to be a clear attack on independent media outlets who may stray from the mainstream media narrative, you agree to the companies terms of use when you create a Facebook profile. Meaning, the company can technically refuse service to anybody, similar to the no shoes, no shirt, no service rule commonly seen in stores across the country.

Facebook recently paired up with Digital Forensic Lab, which as stated in an article by RT is “an offshoot of the Atlantic Council, a neo-liberal think tank set up in 1961 to promote Western ideology around the world.” Facebook is using DFL to target what it deems “fake news” and focusing on the hunt for the elusive “Russian bots.” In an article on Medium, DFL stated they are partnering with Facebook and, “building a community of #DigitalSherlocks in journalism and civil society, who incorporate the same methods into their own work.”

The move to remove teleSUR’s page comes a week after Venezualanalysis had their page removed. Venezualanalysis is a leftist outlet that reports on Latin American affairs. Their page was reinstated but no apology or explanation was ever offered from Facebook.
