Debra Tate received a phone call on Sunday night telling her the news
Prison officials said Manson died of natural causes
Manson did not designate anybody to claim his body
If nobody claims his body the Corcoran State Prison will have him cremated
At 8:13 pm on Sunday night, Debra Tate, sister of victim Sharon Tate, received the phone call that Charles Manson is dead at the age of 83.
TMZ reported that relatives of all the victims of the “The Manson Family” are receiving personal calls about his death. Prison officials say that Manson died of natural causes.
Recently, Manson was taken to a Bakersfield hospital, but shortly after taken back to Corcoran State Prison. At that time, a sourcce close to the situation stated, “It’s just a matter of time.” In January, Manson was taken to a Bakersfield hospital for intestinal bleeding.
Manson refused surgery in January, but later had a change of heart. However, after Manson decided that he did want the surgery, doctors determined he was not a candidate for surgery due to his poor health.
Manson died in a Bakersfield hospital; then his body was taken back to Corcoran State Prison. Manson did not designate a person to claim his body after death. Under California law, if Manson’s body is not claimed the prison will handle his cremation. The prison can bury Manson but is choosing cremation.
If he is not claimed, California will also take possession of Manson’s property and any funds that he left behind. Any funds will be used to cover cremation costs.
Charles Manson has been at the center of countless Internet hoaxes claiming he was getting released on parole, and that he was dead. Recently the latter of the two hoaxes has blossomed into a possible reality.
Officials rushed 83-year-old Manson from Corcoran State Prison to a Bakersfield hospital earlier in the week. Krissi Khokhobashvili, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, would only comment “Charles Manson is alive,” due to state and medical privacy laws.
His Health Is Failing
In January, Manson, 82, was rushed to a Bakersfield hospital for intestinal bleeding. Doctors reportedly wanted to perform surgery, but Manson refused. Later Manson had a change of heart and was willing to go through with the surgery, but doctors ultimately canceled it due to a concern that he would die on the operating table.
When there was nothing left that the hospital could do, Manson was returned to Corcoran. There were security concerns from Manson staying at the hospital. At that time, a source close to the situation told TMZ, “He’s not good. His health is failing.”
