Following online rumors sources say Botham Shem Jean did not know Officer Amber Guyger

In the 24 hours following the shocking shooting of Botham Shem Jean social media has been riddled with rumors about the shooting. Multiple names were claimed to be the officer responsible before Officer Amber Guyger was confirmed as the shooter on Saturday.
A picture from Jean’s Instagram account has been passed around the Web and the source of multiple rumors. In the picture, Jean is seen with three women. People began claiming that one of the women in the image was Guyger and that the two used to date.
Not only is Guyger not in the viral image but sources say Jean did not know Guyger before the shooting occurred. One of the sources claiming Jean did not know Guyger is the family’s attorney Lee Merritt. Merritt told WFAA that family members have stated Jean did not know Guyger and there is no evidence giving reason to believe otherwise at this time.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers were asked to investigate the shooting. The Rangers are often brought into officer-related shootings. While Guyger was not on-duty at the time of the shooting, she was still wearing her police uniform.
The Dallas Police Department had requested a warrant for manslaughter against Guyger on Friday, but the Rangers requested the warrant be withdrawn as they review information from their investigation. Guyger has been placed on administrative leave.
Guyger was involved in another shooting on May 12, 2017, where she wounded a man who allegedly reached for an officer’s Taser. On Thursday, Guyger entered Jean’s apartment after her shift believing it was her apartment and killed the man thinking he was an intruder.
In the hours following the off-duty officer-involved fatal shooting of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean in Dallas, Texas the Internet began the expected crusade to identify the officer responsible for the death. Jean was killed after the officer walked in his apartment and shot him. The officer later claimed she thought she was in her apartment and thought Jean was an intruder.
Initially, Amy Gyger was named as the officer responsible for the shooting. A picture of Jean with three women was said to have pictured Gyger. Social media has spread a rumor that Jean was dating Gyger in the picture. Others have disputed the picture is of Jean and coworkers. We were unable to find any record of an Amy Gyger in the Dallas area or confirm the identity of the women in the image.
Shortly after Gyger was named as the office another name began spreading, Officer Amber Guyger. Guyger is — or at least was — an officer with the Dallas Police Department who was involved in another officer-related shooting on On May 12, 2017.
