  • On Friday Huma Abedin filed her divorce papers from Weiner as he was in court

  • Abedin announced the divorce in August after Weiner was caught sexting with another woman

  • In 2011 Weiner accidentally posted a sexual picture to his Twitter account

  • In 2013 Weiner was winning hte polls in the election to become mayor of New York until it was discovered he was sexting a woman named Sydney Leathers under the name Carlos Danger

On Friday, disgraced former US congressman Anthony Weiner cried in court as he apologized to his victim and said, “I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse.”

In a federal court in New York, 52-year-old Weiner pleaded guilty to sending obscene messages to a minor. Weiner was using his online communications to send sexual messages to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.

Weiner could face years in jail, but as part of his plea agreement with prosecutors, the former congressman will not be allowed to appeal any sentence between 21 and 27 months. The judge also told Weiner that he would have to register as a sex offender.

In September, Weiner’s 15-year-old victim told Daily Mail that he had been sending her sexually charged messages for months and even asked her to undress on her camera.

The Investigation

The investigation into Weiner’s sexting would end up being felt throughout the presidential election. After the FBI had seized Weiner’s computer a new cache of emails from then-Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to senior aide, Huma Abedin was discovered.

In October, former FBI Director James Comey announced the bureau would be reopening an investigation into ex-Secretary of State Clinton possibly using her private email server to send classified documents.

Not long after, Comey announced that the newly discovered email would not bring charges against Clinton. Still, many claim the reopening of the investigation influenced voters in the upcoming election.

The Divorce

On Friday, Abedin filed her divorce papers from Weiner as he pleaded guilty to sexting to a minor. Weiner was seen wearing his wedding ring in court. It is unclear if Weiner knew Abedin was filing her divorce papers on Friday.

Abedin announced that she was divorcing Weiner just one month before it was revealed that he was sending sexual messages to the 15-year-old girl. Abedin had made the decision to leave Weiner after the New York Post released a story about Weiner sending lewd messages to another woman.

Weiner’s Most Cringe-Worthy Photo

While Abedin was traveling the country and campaigning with Clinton, Weiner was busy sexting with other woman. Weiner sent a picture of himself to a 40-something divorcee that showed his weiner in white shorts while laying with his then-4-year-old son. The Twitter conversation leading up to the cringe-worthy photo went as follows.

“Someone just climbed into my bed,” Weiner wrote.

“Really?” she responded.

Weiner then sent the woman a picture that shows a bulge in his white, Jockey-brand boxer briefs. Laying next to him is his son, wrapped in a green blanket.

“You do realize you can see you[r] Weiner in that pic??” the woman replied.

“Ooooooh . . . I was scared. For half a second I thought I posted something. Stop looking at my crotch,” Weiner wrote back.

Apparently, Weiner had panicked for a brief moment thinking he may have accidentally publicly posted the picture as he did in 2011.

The Twitter Incident

In 2011, another picture of Weiner’s weiner in briefs appeared on his official yFrog account, a Twitter picture services. The picture then went out on his Twitter feed. Weiner claimed his account had been hacked, which may have a viable excuse if he had not continued his sexting rampage for the next 6-years. Weiner would later admit to accidentally tweeting out the image and would later step down from Congress.

Weiner Runs For Mayor Of New York

Following the 2011 scandal, Weiner went into rehabilitation and claimed his sexting days were a thing of the past. It was a convincing act, as Weiner had an unlikely lead in the polls to become mayor of New York in 2013.

His lead in the race  was over almost as quick as it began after it was discovered Weiner was still sexting away under the name “Carlos Danger” with a woman named Sydney Leathers.

The Guilty Plea

On Friday, many were surprised to see Weiner showing off his wedding ring as Abedin announced she was divorcing Weiner last August. Weiner was said to speak briefly with his counsel before signing off on papers that admitted his guilt. After signing the paperwork, Weiner sat down and waited for the proceedings to begin.

Weiner calmly answered Judge Loretta Preska’s as she asked if he understood the charges against him and the implications of signing the plea agreement.

When Weiner was instructed by the court to say what he had done, he asked to read a written statement.

Through approximately March 2016, I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager, including sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women.

I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful.

Weiner went on to say that he acknowledged the “devastating consequences” of his actions, namely the destruction of his marriage and political career. Weiner acknowledged that he continued his destructive actions despite witnessing what it was doing to his life.

“I apologize for everyone I have hurt, and to the teenage girl I have hurt so badly,” Weiner said as he began wiping tears from his eyes. Weiner was released on bail and is scheduled to be sentenced four days after his birthday on September 8, 2017.
